San Sebastian (Donostia) - Spain
This summer I'm thinking of doing a surf trips with some friends to the north of Spain ... precisely to San Sebastian - Donostia.
I have been there some years ago, but then to watch a football tournament of my brother:)
Stunning scenary, spectaular architecture, delicious restaurants and lively night life make surf holidays in San Sebastian a great option.
At the time did not take attention to the potential of beaches for surfing...if you know what i mean
I decided to search on the web, for more information....
We have several alternatives to reach San Sebastian
By air
You can fly to San Sebastian airport (19 km from the city) from Madrid or Barcelona. From the airport you can take a taxi (around €24). A bus (€1.30) runs every 30 minutes.
Alternatively you can fly to Bilbao, an hour away (96 km), with flights from London, Frankfurt, Paris, Brussels, Milan, Geneva, etc. From Bilbao airport you can get to San Sebastian by taxi (around €100) or bus, with a service every hour from linking Bilbao and San Sebastian. To get to the bus station in Bilbao you can take a taxi or 2 buses.
A third option is Biarritz airport (50 km away), with flights from Paris and London-Stansted. A bus and a train link Biarritz and San Sebastian. From the airport to either station you can take a taxi or a bus, the train station being closer to the airport and less expensive.
By coach
San Sebastian is a one-hour trip from Bilbao, Pamplona and Biarritz. There are regular, daily departures to and from Madrid (5 h) and Barcelona (6 h), as well as coach services to and from many European cities.
By train
San Sebastian is on the Paris-Madrid route, with the TGV connecting us with Paris in under 6 hours, and services to all of Spain's major cities. There are regular local trains from Hendaye, on the French border, 20 km away.
By boat
There is a weekly ferry service running between Portsmouth and Bilbao, with Tuesday and Saturday sailings.
By car
We can see several sites to estimate the cost of our road trip ... one of them is the ViaMichelin
Parking in the centre of San Sebastian can be difficult and parking time is generally restricted and charged. Cars do not have access to the old part and pedestrian streets.
The school has two parking spaces available for rent.
Meeting and transfer service
These prices are for arrivals and departures between 08:00 and 22:00. Outside this time there will be an increase of 25%.
* Bilbao airport: €120 (1 person); €75 (2 people, per person); €56 (3 people, per person)
* Biarritz airport: €92 (1 person); €60 (2); €42 (3)
* San Sebastian airport: €54 (1 person); €32 (2); €27 (3)
* Irun-Hendaya train station: €54 (1 person); €32 (2); €27 (3)
Prices given are for 2009 and 2010.
After some research I found the ideal spot for surfing ... La Zurriola
A left hand beach break breaking over sand.
It's a pretty crowded place.. A lot of surfers from all over the world are united here.. You need experience here, definetly on the wild days!! In the afternoon the waves are at their best..

I do not know if we're going camping on the beach or go to a hostel. In any case, here is a website of reference for the various existing hostels in San Sebastian.
For now, that's all folks... cheers

Portugal - Supertubos
We head over Supertubos - Portugal, where we can find one of the best waves in this country.
With around 600 miles of coast, much of which is sandy beach, Portugal is a beach-goer's paradise. Add Portugal's excellent climate and you can see why portugal rates as one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe.
Portugal's beaches vary widely in both appearance and the range of activities they offer.
Unlike other countries in Southern Europe, whose coasts face into the calm waters of the Mediterranean, Portugal faces the full force of the Atlantic Ocean. As a reult they provide some of the best surf and surfing in Europe.
You can come to Portugal in many ways, the most practical using the plane. Terminal A offers us several low costs flights from all over the world, where Lisbon is the point of destination.
Once arrived in Lisbon, we can choose to rent a car and go directly to Peniche or save some money and either:
- take a taxi to Parque das Nações and then take the subway to the Sete Rios( where a subway ride costs € 0.80) and then take a bus to Peniche.
- take a taxi to Sete Rios to then take a bus to Peniche.
Additional information about the bus station:
Address: Praça Marechal Humberto Delgado - Rua das Laranjeiras | 1500-543 LISBOA
Phone:+351 213581460
On the way we imagine the waves to come, the clear sea and the super pipe ...
but we still need a spot to sleep...
We can choose several forms of accommodation ... Hotels(Hotel Praia Norte
, Hotel Dona Rita Park Resort) Surf Camps (Peniche Surf Camp, 58 surf) and campsites.
A few meters from the beach Supertubos there is a campsite, where we can perfectly walk to the beach.
Information:
Camping Parque Municipal de Campismo
Address - Av. Monsenhor M. Bastos, Peniche 2520-206 , Leiria (Portugal)
Phone - +351 262789696
But you can browse the net, there is plenty of information. Once installed, we can start thinking about the days of surfing ahead ...
If you come in winter, get ready and perhaps the camp is not a good idea, since it is very cold and it rains a lot, but the sea is usually giant.
In the summer time is much better, despite being almost always morning fog ... but what matters are the waves ..
You can also see the forecast to Supertubos at Winguru
It is without doubt one of the best waves in Portugal ... and now "Elvis has left the building" cu's I still have to go catch some waves at Supertubos... Cheers
